Four key findings

A study conducted across three private orthodontic practices compared FXClear™ to Invisalign® head-to-head: same orthodontist, same 7-day aligner change protocol, comparable case difficulty.

  • Shorter treatment time

    6 mo

  • Fewer aligners

    33

  • Fewer visits

  • Precision tolerance

Shorter treatment duration

17.3 Months average FXClear treatment time, versus 23.0 months for Invisalign — a reduction of nearly six months, or 25%.

Longer cases mean more chances for a patient to lose motivation or fall behind on wear time compliance. Finishing sooner keeps patients engaged and moves more cases through the same chair capacity over a year.

Fewer aligners per case

49 aligners average per case, versus 82 for Invisalign — a 40% reduction.

Preliminary findings indicate FXClear stays within its effective force range through day four of wear, while a standard aligner drops off by day two. Each aligner does more work, so fewer are needed.

Fewer total visits

12.6 total visits per case, versus 15.4 for Invisalign.

While essential chairside appointments for attachments, IPR, and finishing remain, fewer extra monitoring and troubleshooting check-ins were needed. In-office visits remained comparable between groups with significantly fewer virtual visits (2.3 vs. 5.5; p<.001), which means less unplanned monitoring for cases drifting off track.

Greater treatment precision

3D superimposition analysis of planned vs. actual treatment outcomes showed FXClear achieved significantly lower deviation (RMS) in both the upper arch and lower arch, with 39-43% of surface points falling within 0.5 mm tolerance compared to only 27-28% for Invisalign. Greater precision for more predictable results.

Comparable finishing quality

It's fair to ask, does faster mean worse? The data says no.

Objective grading scores confirmed both systems achieved comparable clinical outcomes at the end of treatment. FXClear doesn't reach shorter treatment by cutting corners on the finish — it gets there with fewer aligners and fewer check-ins along the way.

Why the preliminary findings count

The retrospective analysis represents the first head-to-head comparison of comprehensive treatment effectiveness parameters between two clear aligner systems in a clinical setting.

  • Controlled for confounds - Same orthodontist, identical 7-day aligner change protocols for both groups
  • Comparable case difficulty - Patients 14+, mild-to-moderate malocclusion, nonextraction approaches throughout
  • Real-world setting - Three private practices, 111 total cases — not a single research lab
  • Independent analysis - Led by an academic research team; manuscript in preparation for a leading journal
